Concept Explanation

Subtraction Of Money With Borrowing

Subtraction with borrowing is done in the case when while subtracting the paise in the numerator is less than the paise in the denominator and we have to borrow a rupee from the rupees. There are two ways of performing the subtraction of money with borrowing

Case I:

In this case we will subtract the paise by borrowing one rupee that is 100 paise from the rupees and will then perform subtraction

Illustration: Subtraction of  Rs 36.86 from Rs 49.78.

Solution:

Step 1 :We cannot subtract 86 from 78 as 86 is greater than 78.

We will borrow rupee 1 from 49 and it will become 48.

Now we will subtract 86 from 178

(178 - 86) P = 92 P

Step 2: Subtracting rupees

Since we borrowed 1 from 49 , so we are left with 48.

Now we will subtract  36 from 48

Rs( 48 - 36 ) = Rs. 12
